چکیده

This paper considers the problem of three dimensional surface reconstruction of non polyhedral objects through series of images taken from a moving camera. We propose a direct method of surface reconstruction which is based on regularized uniform bicubic B-spline surface patches 35]. This reconstruction is achieved by observing the motion of occluding contours 1, 9, 33], i.e., where the view lines graze the surface. It has been shown that reconstruction of such a three dimensional surface is possible when the camera motion is known, with the exception of those fully concave parts where no view line can be tangential to the surface. Once a set of overlapping B-spline surface patches which constitute the three dimensional surface of an object are reconstructed. We propose an eecient method of fusing them to obtain a global surface. This approach is based on triangular mesh and surface interpolation by using regularized uniform bicubic B-spline surface patches. This approach diiers with previous work: rst it states directly the problem of regularization on the three dimensional surface instead of smoothing the contours in the two dimensional image. Secondly, we propose global surface recovery from small local patches. Previous authors have been content with the recovery of only some local properties of the surface such as curvature or normal curvature estimation. Experimental results are presented for both synthetic and real data.

Smooth surface reconstruction from image sequences

This paper addresses the problem of 3D surface reconstruction using image sequences. It has been shown that shape recovery from three or more occluding contours of the surface is possible given a known camera motion. Recent algorithms allow the estimation of a 3D depth map of points on extremal contours. We present our approach which is based on local approximations up to order two of the surfa...

A Linear Dual-Space Approach to 3D Surface Reconstruction from Occluding Contours using Algebraic Surfaces

We present a linear approach to the 3D reconstruction problem from occluding contours using algebraic surfaces. The problem of noise and missing data in the occluding contours extracted from the images leads us to this approach. Our approach is based first on the intensive use of the duality property between 3D points and tangent planes, and second on the algebraic representation of 3D surfaces...

Multiview Reconstruction of Complex Organic Shapes

We propose a novel narrow baseline multiview stereo surface reconstruction method that is specifically aimed at complex shapes of biological origin that show many thin protrusions and curved occluding contours. Our method is built around fitting local quadrics to occluding contours and it thus avoids any planarity assumptions that are common to other state of the art methods. We describe a comp...

Volumetric Stereo with Silhouette and Feature Constraints

This paper presents a novel volumetric reconstruction technique that combines shape-from-silhouette with stereo photo-consistency in a global optimisation that enforces feature constraints across multiple views. Human shape reconstruction is considered where extended regions of uniform appearance, complex self-occlusions and sparse feature cues represent a challenging problem for conventional r...

3-D Reconstruction of Multipart Self-Occluding Objects

In this paper we present a method for reconstruction of mul-tipart objects from several arbitrary views using deformable superquadrics as the models of the object's parts. Two visual cues are used: occluding contours and stereo (possibly aided by projected patterns). The object can be relatively complex and can exhibit numerous self occlusions from some or all views. Our preliminary experiments...
